Electronic Poker is a popular game that is able to be played in casinos around the globe, or in your house on your computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and consist of the player trying to achieve the best combination of cards possible in order to win money. In this respect it’s very similar as a classic game of poker, apart from the involvement with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a real-life game of poker, such as bluffing, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, credit slips or cash) into the machine and presses the draw button. A 5 card hand will then be "distributed" on the screen.

The Electronic Poker game also has hold buttons, and players will need to now choose which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the bettor would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons need to be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the player has decided on which cards he or she wishes to keep, they should press ‘draw’, which will mean that any fresh cards will be needed they will be given out. The round is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the payout schedule.

Typically, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that discerning enthusiasts are agile enough to pick the most profitable machine each instance.

Once the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to stay on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any cash that they may have won. Additionally, some styles of the game give the player a chance to double their winnings, in which instance a further round is played. There are also variations between individual machines, with some decks of cards including wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
